ABOUT

ABOUT ORTHODONTICS

Orthodontics is more than just straightening crooked teeth. The orthodontist also focuses on the bite, skeletal and dental relationships and facial aesthetics.

Orthodontic appliances can be made of metal, ceramic (clear brackets) or plastic aligners (Invisalign®). Metal and ceramic brackets/bands are cemented and bonded to the teeth (permanent). Invisalign® (clear plastic aligners) are removable and are becoming a growing alternative to traditional braces because of the ability to wear them discreetly and to still have a successful treatment. In most cases, Invisalign is the same cost as Braces. Orthodontic treatment applies constant gentle force to move the teeth into a corrected position. Orthodontic treatment can take anywhere from 1 year to 3 years. After orthodontic treatment is completed retainers are worn to hold the teeth in their newly corrected position. Some orthodontic problems need to be treated in phases and others can be treated in one phase.

Age 7 is the best time to have a first visit with Dr. Cantor. At this time Dr. Cantor can determine the best course of treatment. If the patient is not ready to commence orthodontic treatment at that time Dr. Cantor will follow the patient in pre-orthodontic guidance until it is the ideal time to commence treatment.

Invisalign® Orthodontist in Carlisle, PA

One of the most popular options for braces is Invisalign®, a clear, invisible option that can bring you a beautiful, straight smile. The professionals at Carlisle-based Cantor & Team Orthodontics can fit you or your child for Invisalign® in a friendly, professional environment. We always strive to deliver the best possible care for our patients, and you’ll be able to count on us to provide individual treatment to meet your exact needs.

What Is Invisalign®?

If you are looking for clear aligners in the Carlisle, PA area, then Invisalign® could be exactly what you need. These braces are removable, comfortable and hardly anyone will even know you’re wearing them. They are made using sophisticated three-dimensional computer technology and have been proven to be extremely effective in straightening teeth. Not only will you be more confident in your smile as your treatment progresses, but you’ll be much more confident in your smile once your treatment is finished.

How Invisalign® Works

If you choose clear aligners, treatment usually lasts anywhere from one to two years and most people go through a series of aligners. However, everyone is different, so there will be no way to tell how long your treatment will take until you come into our office to have a thorough examination.

Typically, you will wear your aligners for about 22 hours per day, only taking them out to eat, drink, brush and floss; and you’ll change each aligner about every 7-14 days. During your treatment, you will wear different sets of aligners that will gradually move your teeth until they are completely straightened. We’ll want you to visit our office every 11-12 weeks, which is drastically less than traditional braces, so our team can make sure everything is going as planned.

The Benefits of Invisalign®

There are several advantages to Invisalign®. Not only are they virtually invisible, but they are also extremely convenient for teenagers, young adults, and adults. You can take them out to enjoy meals or to practice dental hygiene and they’re generally known to be more comfortable than traditional wire braces. In addition, you won’t need to spend as much time in the orthodontist’s office getting your braces adjusted. And in most cases, Invisalign is the same cost as Braces.

  • See the smile, not the braces

  • Less visits – see patients every 11 weeks

  • Makes mom and teens happy – fewer appointments

  • More comfort – no wires or irritation

  • Easier to clean teeth – less chance of scarring

  • Fewer emergencies – no broken wires or brackets

  • First set replaced free – avoid the worry of misplacing them

METAL & CLEAR BRACKETS

Types of Braces: Metal & Clear Options for Carlisle, PA Residents

If your general dentist or orthodontist says you need braces, you’ll be happy to know you have a lot of options. At Cantor & Team Orthodontics in Carlisle, PA, we’ll work closely with you to ensure you get the best treatment option that will give you the most beautiful smile possible. Here is some information on some of the most popular choices.

Self-Ligating Braces

Thanks to technological advances, they’re more comfortable than they’ve ever been. They are made of top-quality stainless steel and use components such as archwires and metal brackets to straighten your teeth and make them more attractive than you might have ever thought was possible.  Self-ligating braces use a special type of clip that helps the archwire ensure your teeth are correctly guided into place.  This means you’ll not only experience less friction on your teeth, but you also won’t have to see the orthodontist as often to have them adjusted.

Clear Brackets

These are clear braces that are usually best for adults or teenagers. They are much less noticeable than metal braces, but they also require more care because they tend to be more brittle than metal, as well as larger. In most cases, your orthodontist will recommend learning more about Invisalign®.

Choosing the Best Braces Option

The professionals with Cantor & Team Orthodontics will take the time to carefully explain all of your options to make sure you are confident in your choice of braces. Whether you want metal braces, clear brackets, or something else, we’ll be happy to work to help you make the best decision. We have decades of experience in caring for children of all ages, and you can rest assured we will provide all of your family members with the highest quality of service.

The Responsibilities of Your Child’s Orthodontist

An orthodontist is a dentist who has advanced training in how to make teeth move properly and how to turn a crooked smile into one that is straight, beautiful, and healthy. Our orthodontic staff also specializes in several other areas of dental health as well, including issues that affect the jaw as well as the bite, and we are also experienced in performing oral health examinations on a regular basis.

When It’s Time to See an Orthodontist

Many people associate orthodontists as specialists who only straighten teeth, but another critically important component of what they do includes making sure all the permanent teeth are developing and erupting properly and that a patient’s bite aligns properly after treatment has concluded. If your child has crowded or crooked teeth, that can be much more than a cosmetic problem. It can also lead to gum disease, tooth decay, and possibly even the loss of teeth because of improperly erupting teeth and if teeth overlap, they can be very difficult to keep clean.

It is typically recommended that parents take their children to an orthodontist by the age of seven, whether or not the child is showing any signs of problems. Your free consultation will also include a discussion about Invisalign® and the benefits of early treatment.

How to Choose an Orthodontist

While there are several options in the Carlisle, PA area, only one stands out as a sure choice: Cantor & Team Orthodontics. Dr. Richard J. BRACES FOR ADULTS

Options for Adults Needing Braces

Whether you are looking for Invisalign® or other types of braces in the Greater Carlisle Area, you have plenty of options at Cantor & Team Orthodontics. Here are some things to consider for each one.

Invisalign®

You might have heard of Invisalign® braces, which are clear, nearly invisible alignment trays that gradually straighten your teeth. In most cases, Invisalign is the same cost as Braces. If you are a candidate for this option, you will use several different trays over a period of a year or two. You’ll use each tray for an average of two weeks — the number of trays will depend on the amount of correction that you require. There will probably be a bit of discomfort as your teeth start to shift, but the trays are easy to remove when eating, drinking, brushing, or flossing.

Clear Braces

Clear adult orthodontic braces are a popular update to traditional metal braces. They are made of materials that are close to the color of your natural teeth so it is not as obvious you’re wearing braces.

Metal Self-Ligating Braces

These are metal braces that don’t need ligatures to hold the archwire in place. You won’t need to go to the orthodontist as often to have them adjusted, and you’ll experience less irritation than with traditional adult braces.

Financing for Braces

The cost of braces is a major investment, whether you’re paying for them for yourself or for your child. You might even be putting off getting braces because you think there’s no way you can afford them. However, there are flexible financing options for braces you might not have considered.

The types of payment and financing plans for orthodontic services such as braces can vary a great deal. One option is to pay an Initial fee (or down payment), then make monthly payments that will most likely last about two years (the average length of orthodontic treatment). This payment option is interest-free and is very affordable for most of our patients.  If you are able to pay in full up front, there is a reduction in the total fee, which will save you some of the fee.

Insurance and Other Options

People who have dental insurance can get reimbursed for some of the orthodontic fee.  We are happy to help you submit your claims and help you receive all of the benefits that you are entitled to. It is extremely important, however, to make sure your insurance plan covers orthodontic services. Some plans can save you as much as half off the cost of braces. Don’t delay to take advantage of your plan today!
